Who is Salmonberry?
Salmonberry publishes books and educational resources by Indigenous authors and for Indigenous communities, that are appropriate for the general public, and with a focus on human and ecological health and wellbeing. We incorporate other ecology education resources to complement this core offering.
Our vision is a world where Indigenous ways of knowing the world are woven through all K-12 education, and where traditional knowledge that is appropriate to share, is available to all.
Salmonberry was born from a need within Tribal communities in the Pacific Northwest and beyond, for high-quality teaching tools for Indigenous health and food sovereignty, and a way to get those materials out to Tribal communities, schools, and the general public. We are a publishing and distribution hub that ensures a stable home for these important resources, and encourages the creation and sharing of more resources like them.
Salmonberry is run by Annie Brulé, Chatwin Books co-founder, who has worked alongside Indigenous educators throughout the Salish Sea since 2011. Annie is a member of the Tend, Gather & Grow curriculum development team, and works ongoing with Indigenous artists, colleagues, and organizations. Also a botanical illustrator and educator, she looks for new ways to bring plants and people into closer relationship, and to bring cultural ecological understandings into the public view.
We’d love to hear from you.
We welcome new partnerships with Indigenous authors and those who are serving Tribal communities in health, wellness, and food sovereignty work. Please reach out if you are interested in working with us to print and distribute your work: info@chatwinbooks.com.
We also welcome interest from Indigenous folks who may wish to enter the publishing field—please reach out about internships, mentorships, and any other questions or curiosity. We would love to hear from you.
